Converting incremental backups to full

I discovered that if I create a new backup for a new server, and a full backup has not been run yet, each incremental that runs until the full backup runs on schedule will run as a full. While I understand that this is the nature of incremental backups, this is highly inefficient and a waste of time and storage. I have used backup software extensively since 2004, ranging from Commvault, HP Data Protector, CA ArcServ, and Netbackup and Backup. The last time I was responsible for backups was with Commvault Simpana, and I recall if a full backup had not yet run and the incremental kicked off, then it would convert it to a full backup and mark that backup as a full.

I run BE 2012 with all latest updates. My backups run 7 nights per week; incrementals run M-Thu, Sat-Sun. Full backups run on Friday nights. My file server has about half a terabyte of data, and since I installed the software on Monday of this week (4 days ago), BE has ran incremental backups each night since, and backed up all 477GB of data each night. I have a full backup scheduled tonight, and that means its going to back it all up again, for a 5th night!

PLEASE, change the incremental backups, so if no full backup is detected as having ran on a backup set, then the incremental is converted to a full automatically, and marked as a full backup having been run.
